Sanford Welcomes New Principal

Dr. Palmer has transitioned to become principal of Washburn High School. We welcome Amy Nelson as our new principal at Sanford! Here is the letter from Assoc. Superintendent Carla Steinbach:

Dear Sanford Community,
I am pleased to announce Amy Nelson as the new principal of Sanford, effective immediately.
Anne Sullivan Communication Center has had the benefit of Ms. Nelson’s instructional experience and leadership since 2013. Ms. Nelson came to Minneapolis Public Schools as a teacher in 2004, and has also served as a teacher on special assignment coordinating teacher mentorship and professional development. In addition, she has coordinated school programming, designed and supervised summer school programming, and trained teachers districtwide.
Ms. Nelson received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history and secondary education from Luther College, and a Master’s degree in educational leadership and principal licensure from the University of Minnesota. She also earned a certificate in professional development from the University of Minnesota.
In talking about her new role, Ms. Nelson said she is excited to join the Sanford community. “I am both humbled and thrilled at the opportunity to lead the Sanford community. I am passionate about adolescent education and can’t wait to join in the learning at Sanford,” she said. “Any transition for a community can be scary—know that my door is always open. I believe deeply in the power of a team, and I’m excited to meet everyone and hear your hopes and dreams for Sanford. Together we’ll achieve great things!”
Please join me in congratulating Principal Amy Nelson on her new role in the Sanford community. If you have any questions, please contact me at 612.668.0140.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our students’ academic success.
Carla Steinbach
