My name is Ken Beck. I'm one of the math teachers on the 8th grade "Motivation" team. I also teach Geometry.
I grew up in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I went to college at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. My family and I currently live in north Minneapolis.
I have two sons. Jonah graduated from Henry High School in Minneapolis and is a sophomore at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. He is majoring in music composition. Toby is a senior (12th grade) at Henry High School and is also taking PSEO classes at the University of Minnesota. My wife, Sheri, works at the University of Minnesota as a transfer advisor at the College of Education and Human Development. We also have a black lab named Pepper and three cats (Jazzy, Freiheit, and Pixie).
I've been teaching high school or middle school since 1995. I have been teaching math in Minneapolis since 2001, and I've been at Sanford Middle School since 2010.
Some of my hobbies include reading, biking, photography, playing the guitar and ukulele, and playing games (Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, Starfinder, Mage Wars, Talisman, Descent, and others).
