New School Year, New Principal - Welcome Mr. Amin!

Over the summer, Sanford principal Amy Nelson left her postion with MPS to accept a principal position outside of the district.  We thank her for her 17 years with MPS and wish her well in her new school.

We are pleased to announce Ahmed Amin as the new principal of Sanford Middle School. Mr. Amin has served as assistant principal at Sanford since 2017. He is an experienced educator who started his career in Minneapolis Public Schools as a social studies teacher. Mr. Amin has also designed curriculum and coached and mentored teachers. In addition, he uses data to advance equity and support learning so every student can achieve their full potential.

Principal Amin earned his master’s degree in education and principal licensure from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. That is also where he earned his undergraduate degrees in history and sociology. In talking about his new role, Principal Amin said he wants to build on the work already started at Sanford. “I am excited to continue serving the Sanford community as the principal,” he said. “I look forward to getting to know the community better and partnering with families and staff to continue offering a great IB education.”
