Course Outline

  • Chapter 1:  Introducing Geometry (vocabulary, properties of polygons, circles)
  • Chapter 2:  Reasoning in Geometry (reasoning, proofs, angle relationships)
  • Chapter 3:  Using Tools of Geometry (constructions)
  • Chapter 4:  Discovering and Proving Triangle Properties (proving triangle congruence)
  • Chapter 5:  Discovering and Proving Polygon Properties (properties of polygons, kites, trapezoids, parallelograms, and their midsegments)
  • Chapter 6:  Discovering and Proving Circle Properties (chords, arcs, angles, and arc lengths)
  • Chapter 7:  Transformations and Tessellations
  • Chapter 8:  Area (finding areas of rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, kites, regular polygons, and circles)
  • Chapter 9:  The Pythagorean Theorem (right triangles, isosceles right triangles, 30-60-90 triangles, distance formula)
  • Chapter 10:  Volume (volume of prisms cylinders, pyramids, cones, spheres)
  • Chapter 11:  Similarity (similar polygons, similar triangles, and more)
  • Chapter 12:  Trigonometry (sine, cosine, tangent, Law of Cosines, Law of Sines)
  • Chapter 13:  Geometry as a Mathematical System (proofs)


Students should have a straight edge (ruler) and compass for class.  They will need these items daily when we start unit 3.


We will be using Chromebooks in class regularly.  Students will complete classwork, most assignments, and keep their "notebook" online.  Quizzes given throughout the unit will be on paper.
