About Me

I started my teaching career in 1989 and joined the Minneapolis Public Schools in 1990. Prior to arriving at Sanford in 2008, I taught science at Anwatin Middle School and at Edison High School. I began teaching reading in 2009-10.

I have Bachelors degrees in biology and secondary education from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. I hold a Masters of Education in Teacher Leadership, also from the University of Minnesota. I have reading licensures from both St. Cloud State and Hamline University.

My philosophy

If  we want to get better at a skill, practice and you will get better. The same can be said for reading. The more you read, the better you get. Instruction in class is geared to support this. I want students to find good books to read and to read lots of them. Students will have at least 20 minutes of class time to read. Daily homework requires an additional 20 minutes of reading and a completed weekly reading log.
