Hello!  My name is Elizabeth Novak.  This is my third year at Sanford Middle School.  I have been a teacher in Minneapolis Public Schools for thirteen years.  Previous to Sanford, I taught at Anwatin Middle School and Edison High School.  I am absolutely delighted to be at Sanford this year!

I love teaching Social Studies!   Since I was child I have been interested in people, cultures, and social systems.  I was raised in many different places including seven years in Costa Rica and a year in Columbia.  When I was sixteen my parents sold everything they owned, packed up six of their seven children, and moved back to Costa Rica (after ten years away).  My family drove from Minneapolis to Costa Rica and had many adventures along the way.  These experiences, coupled by my parents deep desire for a more just world, were the foundation for what I do now.  Later, when I was in college, I spent a semester studying in Toledo, Spain.  I hope to bring these experiences to the classroom.  I am also excited to learn from my students and the experiences they bring to my classroom.

I am now the proud mother of three beautiful children.  Joel is eight, Benjamin is six, and Cecilia is four.  I am married and live in South Minneapolis. In my spare time I like to run and see live music.
