My 6th, 7th and 8th grade phy. ed. classes are working on weight training and aerobic conditioning. The students weight train on a split-routine program. Monday they'll work back, legs, and bicep muscles. Then on Tuesday we switch to chest, shoulder and tricep muscles. We continue to repeat the workout for several sessions. Everyday students will ride our stationary bikes for 20 minutes for their aerobic conditioning. With the rise of childhood obesity and health related problems that go along with it, such as diabetes, it is extremely important kids get 20-30 minutes of aerobic activity 3-5 times a week if not more. Hopefully, kids will continue on with weight training and aerobic conditioning throughout their lives.
